That has improved somewhat in recent years, but I still do it out of habit - and just generally preferring DRM-free media.This might disappoint you if you search for a free comic book reader. It's frustrating for me, because for the longest time I was still buying books on Kindle, but stripping out the DRM so that I could reformat them - as the formatting options for Kindle books used to be awful (fixed to fully-justified text, for example).
It really seems like most developers abandoned the idea of those kind of reader apps, and assume you're just going to buy everything on stores with integrated libraries like the Kindle app. I don't know about anything with the kind of library management options you want though. YAC Reader was the best alternative that I found as a non-subscription option for comics (since Panels moved to subscriptions). I can't emphasize the page count enough, as odd as it may seem at first. I never found any iOS app that does everything, always some fucking drawbacks. I know I'm asking much but I'm not that delusional. to plug my device and send books directly from Calibre ? Eh, good one, this is iOS. to be able to read some summary metadata ? I swear I'm asking for the most basic things, and yet not every reader handle them. a good dictionary support is a given I suppose.
to get the page number of a book ? I know that it doesn't make sense because of font size, but it's no rocket science to calculate the page count based on the font size and margins. to display a cover view and order books MY way, like in the Apple app, drag and drop. Pretty certain it doesn't exist and that pisses me off. I'm looking for the best e-reader on iOS (for me). Because I vented some frustration and didn't know where to ask, but again, yeah, not totally on topic.
